I started reading cards as a child aged about 8 or 9 years old, but back then I used ordinary playing cards. I remember being shown what each suit meant and a specific layout but when I asked my mother who showed me, she simply answered, "No one this side of life!"
I married at 19 but my husband was not keen at all on anything to do with tarot, so I concentrated on bring up a family and helping my husband with his business. At 38 we parted amicably and I went straight back to reading tarot.
A friend of mine gave me the cards I use now, the Witches Tarot created by Ellen Cannon Reed and Martin Cannon. I read the cards intuitively, meaning that although I know the traditional meaning of each card, they are simply a tool for me to connect psychically with the person I am reading for. Therefore, the cards mean different things according to each individual reading. For the past 21 years (almost 22!) I have relied on these cards to help me give accurate readings, and they have never let me down!
I do have other packs, but these are my 'go to' pack of choice. Added into the mix, I have sat in a development circle for the last 4 years or so, which has enabled me to link in with loved ones who have passed to spirit. On occasions, if the person I am reading for is happy to allow it, I get extra messages from these loved ones to add to the message of the cards.
I always say that tarot is fantastic if you need advice or guidance about any area of your life, but it is really an indication of what is likely to happen if you carry on doing what you are doing - we all have free will and can change things, so tarot can also be considered as an early warning system for future difficulties that you have the ability to alter.
